E-stim Wartenberg Pinwheel
A deviation from the normal Violet Wand obsession here to talk about the latest fun acquisition to my toybox.
Combining a pinwheel with e-stim is something I’ve wanted to try since I first saw one.
So, I got one. The first thing that escaped my lips when trying it out was “wow”. This shit is intense.
As the pinwheel rolls across the skin you can feel each point on the surface tingling with very little pressure at all, it’s more intensely sensual than a “normal” pinwheel.
As the intensity increases, acupuncture points start to become places that rolling the pinwheel causes tingling to shoot through your muscles.
Pinwheels are becoming an incredibly versatile tool in my “BDSM arsenal”. Used alone, they can be anywhere from light and tickly to intense, blood drawing instruments of fear; with a Violet Wand they become a hot, sharp knife drawing across the skin; and now, with an e-stim they become intense, sensual and “wow”.

Worth considering: unless you’re very lucky and manage to catch them before the endcaps are bonded these will probably come in 11.1mm (US standard) rather than 11mm (EU standard), so make sure you’ve got a wand that can handle that (or just keep it as a collectors piece).

Wikipedia told me that the Violet Wand was used in Queer as Folk (Season 2 Episode 11) so I set out to get some screencaps.
Success!
In this example, it’s being used to give the impression of a wild sex party; quite successfully!
Anger Management Violet Wand
So, until now it’s been difficult to get screencaps of the Violet Wand used in Anger Management; here you go!
Length of spark… greatly exaggerated but at least it puts to rest that age old question; can I use a Violet Wand while I brush my teeth?

Review – Body Contact Cable
A while back I got my body contact cable from DrClockwork.
I did get hit by customs tax on the way in, but that fortunately wasn’t too bad a sting.
Onto the product itself; by standard these are made with a brass handle, but brass contains copper and some people have copper allergies.
I got mine custom made with a medical grade stainless steel handle, which isn’t as conductive as brass but does the job perfectly as far as I’m concerned!
DrClockwork himself was absolutely fantastic, helping every step of the way and figuring out a way we could ship the item (reasonably) from the States.
The cable is double gapped (there is a spark gap in two seperate places of about 1/4 inch) which does mean that you have to turn the wand up a bit more to get the same kick as you would with a traditional saturation probe, but for the peace of mind of not worrying about squeezing too hard and ending up with glass shards stuck in you – worth every penny!
The cabling itself is made of 50kV insulated silicone – which is super flexible and is really nice. You will get absolutely zero cable bleed with this unless you physically damage the cable.
Recommended? Yes! It fits easily into your existing Violet Wand collection, it’s hard wearing, hard working (allows both reverse and secondary contact techniques) and takes a weight off your mind with regards to glassware!
Everyone with a Violet Wand should consider adding one to their collection.
Helio-Lux replacement faceplate
So, I’ve had the Helio-Lux kicking around in my “fix-it” box for a while now and things are finally starting to come together.
It’s a scarlet macaw faceplate, because why not? It’s something different and unique and will make for a talking point, and an awesomely personalized wand!

Common Violet Wand Electrodes
It’s a wide and wonderful world of Violet Wand electrodes out there, with many shapes, sizes and colors to choose from. Some very rare, and some very common.
Here are some electrodes that you will find in any Violet Wand kit worth its salt, along with where to get them.

The comb electrode is extremely popular for its sensual side, used lightly in the hair it creates sharp tingly sensations and can even cause some people to burst out in fits of giggles!

Ebay Highlights 01/03/2013
The first two ebay highlights look to be in good condition and working order, and will probably be a fairly safe investment in terms of reliability and quality.
A red faced Helios unit, in pretty good nick with a really interesting marbled case lining.
A white faced Helios unit, also in what appears to be really good nick.
These were manufactured more recently, so you’re not getting the same level of “history” as you do with some vintage devices.
If it’s history you’re after – this VITAEFONS is more at home in a museum than in a living room.

Finally got the faceplate off my Helio-Lux and passed it along to my artist friend to make a new (but much more attractive) plate for it.
I’m looking forward to the final results 😀

Violet Wand Rebuild
So, my Hochfrequenz 309 was the first Violet Wand I own that I’ve officially had a hand in repairing – albeit not a very big one, as it was done with the help of a friend who is more experienced in these matters.
What I would like to know is – what would people like to hear about, from a rebuild perspective? How can I help?
My Hochfrequenz 309
As promised, lovely pictures of my (now working) hochfrequenz 309.
This is a really nice unit with a very unique feel, owing to the rather unique mechanical adjuster that it uses.
As you can see, I’ve spliced the handpiece from a 70s Holo-Electron onto it (the sleeved handpiece is really nice).
Hope you enjoy the pic, I only pack one electrode in this kit, as it all fits into a small flight case along with a GFCI and a body contact probe from DrClockwork (which hasn’t arrived yet) expect another post when it does!
Hochfrequenz 309
Anyone know anything about these units? I’ve recently acquired one!
Best estimates put it at pre WW2, but besides that nothing else really is known about it.
I’ve also found out (from trying, lol) that it runs 10mm electrodes by standard, I’ve spliced in the handpiece from a Holo-Electron I had floating about to use there instead.
I’m going to take some photography of it tomorrow, with objects for scale so you can see how cute and dinky the box is 🙂

If you’ve been reading this blog for a few weeks you’ll remember a while back I put up the idea of using a vintage style ad to advertise modern Violet Wands and products.
Well, I was sent such an ad by the fantastic DrClockwork!
This is a fun photoshop of one of the original Violet Ray ads, and is really eye catching and retro! Nice job doc!
The challenge is still open if anyone else wants to try their hand at this, I’d love to see your efforts!

Ebay highlights time!
This is probably my personal taste for the white glassware, but I think this is a really nice little box. Certainly worth keeping an eye on, especially for the price it is currently! Link.

I was visiting a friend last night, and we both had our Violet Wands out.
Just thought I’d share a picture from the night with you!
Violet Wand Body Contact Cables
Recently I’ve been shopping for body contact cables for a Violet Wand, as I decided something a bit less fragile than a saturation electrode for secondary contact would be quite useful.

The main things that I were looking for were:
- “safety gapped”
- stainless steel tubing, not copper, brass, or nickel
- cable insulated for at least 15kV
- 11mm fit
I put up a post on a networking site, and one of the vendors stepped forward personally to help me with my conundrum.
DrClockwork was able to make one precisely for my needs, with cable insulted for 50kV and 11mm fit! I highly recommend anyone who’s thinking of getting one to send him a message and see what he can sort out for you.
Will post again once the cable gets here with a review of the item itself.

Just thought I’d share this with you; adapted from an old high frequency manual into a modern format.
Buying a Violet Wand on Ebay
If you’re going to be buying a Violet Wand on ebay, you’re either going to be using ebay as the medium through which you get in contact with sellers like bound2tease or buying a vintage unit to have reconditioned for you.
If you do decide to go for a vintage unit, or a unit of unknown quality and origin.
What to look for:
Condition of the case
- is the case moldy, or worn out?
- is the original lining still intact?
- are the original electrode clips still intact?
- are the hinges and fastenings rusted?
- is the case dented?
Condition of the handset
- is the bakelite chipped, cracked or otherwise worn?
- is there evidence of wax leaking out?
Condition of the “box” (if a two-piece unit)
- if hardboard/paper fronted, is the fascia worn/discolored?
- are the knobs broken off, or chipped?
Condition of the cable
- is the cable frayed?
- is the voltage correct for your area?
Hopefully running through this checklist will help you a little if you do decide to try your hand at the lottery of ebay shopping for Violet Wands.
Cleaning your Violet Wand Electrodes
Cleaning your Violet Wand electrodes should be part of your routine of using your wand.
Electrodes come in all shapes and sizes, but fortunately, almost of all of them are smooth glass; This makes them very easy to clean.
Alcohol wipes (the same kind you get for cleaning eyeglasses) usually do the job nicely, but for more stubborn dirt if any should get on there, a soapy cloth dipped in warm water (careful not to get the endcaps wet!) should do the trick.
Another option is to use anti-bacterial hand cleaner, in conjunction with the alcohol wipes, which will ensure a nice clean electrode when you’re done.
If you’re worried about the flammability of the alcohol, hydrogen peroxide provides another good cleaning agent that will leave the glass with a nice finish, though you’ll have to provide your own cloth rather than using the disposable ones that you can get as alcohol wipes.
